Question about Life Rock

So we are new to the reef aquarium materials. We bought 40lbs of Life Rock and I’m wondering about gluing it together. Do we need to use special glue or can we use like Liquid Nails to make the glue the rock together?

I used superglue to hold my aquascape,
I never heard someone use liquid nails, there might be chemicals in there that will leach into tank later.

Don't use Liquid Nails

• Use super glue, extra thick.
• Regular super glue with baking soda as a quick set and strengthener.
• Use reef safe epoxy/cement that you buy from a fish store with or without using super glue first.

Be patient with your cycle using Life Rock. All it is, is branching pieces of porous calcium carbonate rock cemented together and painted with a non-toxic purple paint. It will look mature and beautiful, but it takes a while for the rock to really cure, unlike live rock. That being said, I love the stuff. The arches were great to create the style of aquascape I wanted. I did go bare bottom, so if you're adding sand, your cycle might be just fine.

I used some life rock in my tank. I glued it with BRS gel superglue and used epoxy sticks to strengthen it. The epoxy has to say “nsf” on the label. I used jb weld water works mostly. Walmart and Home Depot sell it. I used a small rock to put texture in the joints. You can’t even tell now.

You can use Marco Rocks mortar or superglue with powdered rock. There are many vids on YouTube. Don’t use liquid nails!

Sometimes, due to pest that develop on rock work, it is desirable to be able to remove individual rock for treatment outside of tank. When rock work is glued together, that is no longer an option.

I used super glue and two little fishies epoxy. Worked great to hold everything together.

I drill the rocks and insert acrylic rods into the rocks (to act as rebarb), then join them together with reef cement
