I am looking to add a refugium to my system. I am unable to have it in sump, do to limited floorspace in the sump. I plan on using a rubbermaid container and drilling it to drain back to the sump. My questions arise with supplying the refugium. I would like to not add another pump to the system if att all possible. My current options are redirecting outputs from my carbon and bio pellet reactors or using a "T" that is already installed on my DT return line. Would I get negative results if I used the reactors to supply the fuge since the bio pellet output needs to be skimmed? If I do use the reactors I was planning on having the fuge return directly next to the skimmer intake. Thoughts?

Imo it's best to use the water that is draining out of your dt to feed to fuge. Than let that water gravity drain from fuge into to sump return pump area. That way you are getting nutrient rich water from dt to feed algae and pods in fuge and you are not spending extra on extra pumping. I think it's best to bypass skimmer to increase chances of pods entering dt. I drain 65 percent of my water to skimmer and 35 to fuge.

I didn't think a setup like that would work with my system, but I think I have found a way. My new question is, what will give me best results in the refugium? Mud? Deep sand? LR? Marco? All?

I only use live rock and macro in my fuge but that's just me. I keep a powerhead in the bottom to suspend waste so the skimmer cleans it out. No sand in my tanks.
