My refugium is bare bottom with just live rock and cheato. I want to add miracle mud. Can I just add it? What's the best way to do so? Tank has been running over 6 months now. What are some of your experiences with Miracle mud do you feel that it works?

My main concerns are triggering a cycle or harming the fish or corals and maybe just the overall cloudiness it could cause

What do you want it to accomplish?

IMO, you can more easily supplement iron, if that is what you think it adds. It will also be cheaper and more readily controlled.

Anything beyond that, do you know that it adds other things and that you actually need them? Probably not. :)

So it's just claim by them and opinion that it replaces trace elements and makes for healthier corals n fish?

It appears to help macroalgae, probably by releasing iron.

As far as I know, everything else is just speculation. I think very few people actually believe it helps fish at all. :)

There are people who use it and like it, but almost no one does a side by side comparison of the same creatures without it.

Thanks for the help I think I'll leave well enough alone.

I've been thinking of adding some miracle mud to my refugium, i like the look of mangrove trees and the mud would look like how you would find mangroves in nature.
Sure it may or may not leach elements, but if you like the look go for it.
Biodiversity rocks!
