I'm cross posting this trying to get a quick answer....

I received my Starfire lighting system from Reef Radiance. Problem is I have two friends coming tomorrow to help me take out previous lighting system from my canopy, and retrofit the Starfire boxes in. My question is how much clearance do I need from the top of thr canopy down to the boxes? The canopy is 21 inches high over the tank, and is completely open in the back. The tank is 6 feet long, and I'm installing three Starfire units.

I emailed earlier today, but haven't heard back. The company is in California, so I can't reach them while my help is available in the morning due to the time difference.....

IME, 2" is enough room to not overly restrict the performance of the flow of air but 3-4" would be my recommendation. Or since you are moving the canopy, now would be a good time to break out the hole saw and drill a vent hole where the fans are positioned to eliminate all possibilities of restricting air flow.
