So I've decided that I'm going to build my own stand to alleviate some of my struggles with having no space to work with my sump. My ideal design is to build 60 x 24 x 30, but with doing so brings my biggest dilemma: should I make 3 equal length pieces of 20", or 2 30" pieces? I just want to make sure I have enough support, and obviously using 2 30" pieces saves me a bit of materials but at the same time won't be as sturdy as 3 20" pieces. I hope I'm making sense, my apologies if I've confused you!

Is 60 the length? If so I would try to keep it as 1 piece. Its only 5ft then using a 2x6 should suffice. Or you could go 2x8 for that extra peace of mind. With a 2x8 you definetely wouldnt need a center support either.

Oh no, I meant with 8020 quick frame, not a wood stand. Something more like this

I understand what your saying. The 60" span either 2 peices or 3. I would play on the caution side I would do 3 20" sections. It seems like your tank is 150 gal. That is a lot of weight if you were to do 1 support in the middle considering 80/20 is only 1 inch stock. I would also skin the sides and back for more support. Your main goal is to have min flex.

I'm no engineer but do you know if that 1" stock is good enough for 150 gal tank? Judging by that pic that tank is a 4' 75 gal tank.
