I guess I was just thinking dosing it (your DIY 2 part)instead of just adding it directly to the tank.

Since evaporation rates can vary, and organisms would be using up the added ALK, would adding it to the topoff like hes suggesting actually have an impact?

I would think in this case, dosing a specific amount 1 time would yield a better return?

Haven't tried the test on new saltwater yet. I have done 2 tests today on the current tank before adding any soda. Using salifert test and both times came out to right around 5. I was having my LFS take care of water changes before the rona hit. Since then I have been neglectful so I'm trying to get things back to being right. I will do another water change in a few days and check it again to be sure. Dealing with high nitrates and low kh right now. Then I'll move on to my other issues

Many people read Salifert syringe backwards.

Be certain if if you dispense the whole syringe to get to the endpoint, it is a high number of alk, not a low one.
