I have had this cleaner shrimp a few months and it's just died. Reason = unknown.
This happened a couple of months ago, where I had a cleaner shrimp for 8 months which I bought when it was very small, it grew quite large and randomly died. This one was also really young. Here are some pictures of the dead shrimp as I did notice some weird stringy-like things on top of the shrimp. I for some reason am thinking some kind of parasite? Something to do with moulting? I really don't know.

I made a thread on my last cleaner shrimp that died randomly: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/cleaner-shrimp-died-for-unknown-reason-after-8-months.1067350/

Dying during moly process?
Some say running iodide at 0.06ppm helps shrimps and leathers shed.

Life span is quite short at 2-3 years..
I was going to mention that actually! If it is iodine then I would have thought it'd be more common/known though right?

Would you say that the weird stringy things on top of him were to do with molting, or some kind of parasite?

They don't live long
The first one I had for 8 months and died randomly, the second for 3 so I am suspecting something did kill them as their life expectancy is way longer than that, I got them both young and small

A theory I have is: I soak frozen food in selcon meaning it is in the fridge for a few days and some of the food becomes undesirable for the fish and they spit it out. Maybe the shrimp only got the bad bits and spat it out, leaving it to starve to death. Maybe spot feeding it and close monitoring to make sure it gets enough is required?
