Rebuilding an aquarium

Is it worth rebuilding a tank. I see some people say yea and some people say it will never seal. What you guys think

If you do it right there is no reason it would never seal. Certainly cheaper than buying a new tank!

RTV108 or RTV103(black) are the choice silicon selections. You need to be very sure you remove all of the previous silicon. Lots of elbow grease, razor blades, and acetone.

you have to strip all the silicone or it will leak were the new and old silicone meet

Yes everything, do it once for the experience if you like :) you need to separate the braces, use allot of acetone to soften the old silicone and a string of aircraft cable to separate the glass, scrape with a good razor and clean to perfection with acetone from HD, silicone and you good to, let dry for a week.

I was thinking of leaving the silicone that holds the panes together. If I take it apart completly im dont have a jig or clamps to keep the panes straight

I just built a tank, and now have to take it apart and redo it. Long story. Anyway, Harbor Freight has clamps for super cheap. If you are working on a tank with the top and bottom plastic rim that will go a long way in helping keep things straight. You should see how they make those tanks at the factory, they go together in about 2 minutes. So thats the easy part. The hard part is just making sure you remove all the old silicone

If you are going to just redo the inside seal then you still need to be sure you remove all the old silicone. And be very careful you do not get the razor blade or acetone on the seams holding the panes together.

Long story but essentially bubbles in the bottom seam.
