Hey guys I’m slowly working my way into the world of aquarium controllers. I’m poor right now (student loans) and my wife would absolutely not let me buy a full service controller like the apex, ecoral, etc.

Recently, I’ve been seeing some very simple controllers that provide a box and an app for controlling the light, pumps, etc. Something like this might be right up my alley for experimenting/organizing my set up.

Have y’all seen any simple/cheaper controllers that you’d recommend in this scenario? It’s totally possible that the boxes I’ve seen are garbage and/or of so little use it’s better to just not pick one up.

But let me know if y’all have any thoughts!

I haven't actually tried it, but I'm speculating the next best thing to a simple controller is a smart power strip.

I went for Reef Angel.

Open source lets you tinker a bit, and a great community to help you if you cant get something working just right. Still has a basics portal setup for the most common needs.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
