Red Sea LEd 90

i'm not sure if it's just me, but if I had known back when I started what I know now I would not have purchased my Red Sea tank with the LED 90 that it came with ( for the 42 gal DT). If you read the specs, it does indicate that at the center surface the par reaches 500 , but according to my measurements thepar levels very quickly decreases from there, and I have to bring my torch coral way up to the surface just to get them to around 100 par or in the center of the tank . Until I bought a par meter, I did not realize the low levels of light My coral were getting and why I could not keep any SPS. I can't really get 200 par anywhere in my tank unless I have coral up at the top of the water column towards the center, which is not very realistic. I was wondering if anybody else has a similar experience with the red sea 90. according to their specs, par reaches 500 are the center surface, and 120 about 20 inches below, but I have not found that to be the case.

I have 3 on my 300 gallon and love them. Ive never tested the par though, I dont keep corals so I cant answer that honestly but I do like my 90s

That's very odd. I've got a G200 with a single LED 90 and run blue @60% white @0%, with vey good growth of my torches, frog spawn and hammers - all are mid tank level and PAR readings at those levels are around 125 -150. Zoas, blasto and chalice are on rocks on the sand bed, all doing well.

That's very odd. I've got a G200 with a single LED 90 and run blue @60% white @0%, with vey good growth of my torches, frog spawn and hammers - all are mid tank level and PAR readings at those levels are around 125 -150. Zoas, blasto and chalice are on rocks on the sand bed, all doing well.

yes, I would agree with you fairly accurate as far as how blue will affect the torches 90% level but I'm just saying I could never get my PAR levels above like 125 or 150. It's hard for me to get to like 200. I've not seen that. I'm having very good growth with my torch as well, but I feel like I have to be very strategic to where I place everything.

what are you par levels @ the san bed? 60/0 seems very low.

I run an RL50 80/10 on a 20g RedSea Max Nano! (don't have a way to test PAR though)
