looking for help, with Red Sea Reefer 170, regarding the socks. The online manual is about worthless, and I have no idea how to put this thing back together, though it should be simple. The one thing I need is, if possible...could someone show me their sump where the socks go? because what I see on mine, is it looks as though the socks slip into a notch on either side, vs a drop in. idk if that makes sense. It says that it takes a 4 inch, but there's no way, unless it's drop in, and that part was taken out for some reason.
anyone have a picture?
Thank You in advance :)

Thats what mine is as well. Thank You! So it is missing the part for drop in. do you know if it's at all possible, to get a replacement?

Ok I thought you just need the sock holder itself. The other part is bonded to the glass and was most likely removed to add a roller if i were to guess.
yeah I need the whole part, or better yet, a work around. I am not interested in a roller matt for this tank, if anything, it would go on my big tank lol do you know of a work around?

that looks good! Thanks!!
That holder should work but may allow some water water to bypass the sock but really isn't a big deal IMO. There are some glass pieces that are siliconed in place where the original holder is siliconed to. I assume the previous owner removed those? If by chance they are still intact I'd be happy to cut my holder out and send it to you since I'm scrapping the tank just let me know.
Forgot the pic. These are the glass pieces

Yea the rs 170 sock holder is marginal at best, imo. On my rs170 I run 300 micron mesh socks. They don't fit flush but are a much better option than the stock bag, imo.
The stock bags are proprietary and are smaller in dia than 4" socks.

I ran reef diapers in mine and was happy with them especially not having to clean socks. Some people want squeaky clean but I usually wait untill my socks are overflowing before changing. I have a reefmat in my acro tank and I shut it off a few nights a week and let it overflow. I think the corals appreciate the extra food.

I ran the old socks for years. Ran a BM filter roller that's sitting in the garage now. Can't give it away, lol.
After all the years I run 300 micron mesh in all my systems except for my IM 15 which I use cut up pieces of poly filters. I use them new then rinse and replace. Pods and small things can get through and I don't need to continually buy floss.
