Red Sea - ReefMat 1200 question

So I ended up ordering rolls from Ali express and seems to be so dense that I am lucky to get 1 week out of a roll vs. 3 weeks from the ones at BRS. Curious what source you use from Ali Express? there are many that sell and I want to try another source if possible. I also tried to contact Precision Converting several times and no answer. used form online and no response either.

These are the ones i bought last time - they are lasting about 6 weeks a roll.

That's a little strange, perhaps Steve might be on vacation.

Awesome, thanks! so looks like there are a few options. Did you purchase the ocean wonders ones as they are cheaper, or the red sea?

I am currently using the Ocean Wonder ones, and they have been fine, maybe slightly higher usage than the OEM one's, but not much.
Have also used a no name brand one there, and they were fine also.

Guys, so I continue to see excessive use of the roll and get only around 2 weeks for one roll - which to me is crazy. I took pictures of my unit installed and marked up picture to show water level. Can you please take a look and let me know if you are about the same level or this is installed incorrectly. I average about 85 - 100 in use per day.

BLUE LINE - Water Level in Sump
RED - Water level close to engaging roll to advance
YELLOW - About the level water is at after reef mat advances.

I am currently using the Ocean Wonder ones, and they have been fine, maybe slightly higher usage than the OEM one's, but not much.
Have also used a no name brand one there, and they were fine also.

Can I please ask, what do you think the best advance length is in these to minimize paper consumption? I’m curious if it’s a small or large increment. Thx!!

There's likely a marginal difference between advance lengths for fleece longevity at best.

Operating height of water will make the biggest difference in fleece consumption from my experience with all units (lower water means less back pressure which results in less fleece being consumed)

Smaller increments however will keep the overflow + auto top off running a lot more consistently though which I think matters a lot more than anything.

That makes a lot of sense. I just raised my 1200 unit now and left the default advance length of 1-1.2”. Thank you!!

I have mine set to the lowest possible for the same reason above (less water level changes) - the only downside is it does run reasonably often (albiet i cannot hear it through my cabinets)

Thanks! Sorry meant to respond to this one and I now have it setup to use both inlets. Seems to be working, but it is using around 130 inch daily of the roll, which is high. I feel like over a few days it will settle and be lower. I have a RM1200 on my DT and I had to adjust the height a bit and reduce water flow and now it is better - using less of the roller mat. I am probably going to make some tweaks but good to know I can use both of the inlets. I also received this from Red Sea support.

Using both inlet ports on the ReefMat is fine if your aquarium has two downflow pipes. It should not cause the fleece to be advanced more often unless the turbulence is causing the sensor to be splashed.

Hi. I recently tried using both sides of my reefmat and there is a good bit of bubbling and ultimately turbulence which I feel may be causing it to prematurely advance. The furry roll also looks pale to me. Did you ever find success using both sides and how was your roll usage? Thank you!!

Are you doing a full siphon at all for one side? I would put the sensor on the side that utilizes a full siphon so theres no bubbles to cause potential premature advances.

Hi. have 3 drains and one is serving as an emergency one. The other two are active and each has a hose going to the reefmat. There’s no valves on these lines. They are both draining fairly equally. I’m not sure how helpful my reply was. Thank you for your help.

Of course there could be some slime as I recently had a bacterial bloom that’s seemingly gone at this point. I just added the second line yesterday so I should really give it time I suppose to see where it settles.

If it's not too much effort for you make a majority of the flow go to one side (so no air will go down that side) then that should solve the issue.

Thank you for your help. I will try to find a short coupler or cut one so it’s minimally higher than the other main drain. I did adjust the flex drain hoses and I was able to reduce the bubbling a fair amount on the side with my sensor. I’ll see how my usage looks tomorrow but I think you’ve got me on the right track. I’m happy to report that my roll usage seems to be going well. Interestingly enough, something as simple as moving around my inlet hoses was enough to reduce a lot of the bubbles I was getting inside the reefmat to the extent that I now have very low roll usage! Thanks for your help!
