Hello,

I’ve bought this red tree sponge a day ago, it is pretty but I noticed today there is a white spot on it that wasn’t there a day ago. Is it dying? Is it toxic to my tank? Is it better for me to remove it before it starts deteriorating and killing my other corals? Thanks. I attached the photo of it without the white spot and with it.

They aren’t toxic. Was it exposed to air at any point? Sponges hate air. They are so bright and pretty but really hard to keep in a tank because they are filter feeders and need a crap ton of goodies in the water to feed on.

I tried my best from the LPS store to my tank not exposing At all. It was fine that day. I would just hate for it to die and be release some toxin that would kill my other. Thank you for your reply Kris.

I would just watch it closely. If it starts looking worse, I'd pull it. KP Aquatics sells those too. They may be able to give you tips to feeding it.

For the future. I have found the survival rate of orange tree sponges much higher than the red ones. Also orange ball sponges. Those will reproduce very well if they are fed. At least the ones I had did.
