So been using RS test most of the 3 months
As reported was having high Nitrate issue. So looked for alternatives test.
Salifert or Nyos
Picked up nyos 0-160. Large range. Reliable?
Tested water and results were well down on what the RS test showed.
From 50ish using RS down to 30-35 using nyos.
Does this explain why I have no GHA?

Can you take a water sample to LFS to get a baseline?

I cant speak for the red sea test but I had a Nyos Nitrate test that way testing repeatedly high.

Had a chance to converse with Habib of Salifert.
He claims Nyos is not that accurate compared to his method.
??

Never liked the NYOS kit myself, but others swear by it.

I use Hanna high range kit now. No guessing color charts, and a hard number to go by.
My next choice will be a Hanna. Nyos atleast beats it for range. Not that I ever want Nitrate at 160.
Testing today I realised my result yesterday was well under the RS kit I miss read.
RS test at 40 while NYOS tested at 25-30Quite a different result

So I tested today as I've been dosing quantum high range Nitrate remover.
REDSEA tested at 40 plus. So bought nyos. Tested at 30ish.
Today bought HR Nitrate Hanna. Tested at 15.4. what the heck so retested at 17.5.
The Hanna was after a 25% wc. Not sure that would cause such a drop?
Anyway my Nitrate seems to be under 20. Much better that the 40plus the RS kit said

So I buy the HR Hanna and test my water Sunday. 17.5 says the checker.
So today I test and it says 28. Really a 10ppm swing in 2 days.
Closer to what I expected the first time. Maybe I didnt hold my tongue right the first time?
28 takes this to close to the NYOS test but a number instead of a guess

Even if you used the Hanna perfectly, it has a +/- 2 ppm error range, so it may only be a swing of a few ppm.

I like the Red Sea Pro kits with the color comparitor wheel for lower ranges 0-4ppm. Makes it super easy. For higher ranges I don't think it matters if you at 15, 17, or 20.

Finally cracked nitrates topped 40 on hanna.
50% change.
Removed sand/detritus from sump
Cleaned purigen.

Retested after 1 day nitrate down to 27ppm.
Put that down to 50% WC.

Test another day and down to 18.
That I put down to cleaning purigen?
Have now removed purigen. Let's see where it goes.

Reaction in tank.
Some corals very happy some sad that were usually happy.
I'm thinking my happy medium is 20ish

Best thing to do is make changes slowly, and one at a time.

Otherwise you wont know what effect each change made.

You can also upset the coral who are used to things changing very slowly.

Every time I try to use my Hanna for Nitrates I get frustrated and switch to Red Sea and decide I am going to post asking. I never get around to posting. What is the proper order for inside the filter? I can never make mine stop leaking I have tried every combination of filter and washer and it always leeks. Is the filter supposed to go inside the smaller of the two cups? The washer on top of it? on top inside the smaller cup? Are they supposed to go in the larger cup just sort of floating in the middle? Washer on bottom or top?

I'll have to leave that to others. I've never used the Hanna.
