After years of relying on the tried and true Tunze osmolator, I finally upgraded to their new version. When I spoke with the Tunze USA folks, they acknowledged that the initial couple of batches had some challenges, but they insist all is well now.

I'm inclined to believe them, given the reputation of the brand, but part of me wants some added redundancy here. What do you use as a failsafe for your ATO? I've wondered about the Neptune LLS sensor given I'm a Neptune user, but the reviews seem mediocre at best...

It does have redundancy built in.
It will shut off after 10 min of continuous pump use.
If you need more an optical sensor in the sump hooked to a controller like an apex can turn off the power when triggered

The Tunze are already more of the best ATO with built in redundancies, though I do believe the old 3155 (which I have) was more reliable than the newer Osmolator 3 (which I've never tried), just based on feedback from members here that I've seen.

Another simple failsafe is to plug the ATO into a basic light timer and set it to turn on for only about a minute, maybe a time or two a day. This way, the ATO cannot run longer than a minute at any given time. Even if the failsafe on the ATO fails, the timer will cut power to it. You may have to adjust the time on and frequency/day for your tank as I've never personally done this, but read that others do.

Good luck!
