I purchased a reef octopus 200 elite int on black Friday to prepare for buying a 180, things have changed and we have to think along the line of a 120. Is this skimmer now overkill for this tank or can I dial it down with the dc pump?

You can try it, but it may be hard to dial in. I currently have a 150sss on my 120 gal tank.

Tank is just starting to cycle, haven't open the box yet. Ended up going with a waterbox peninsula 6025 so in between the 120 and 180. Probably going to set it up in a week or two

I have my 225 gallon tank still in the garage, I bought a Regal 200 int. so I got bored and I put it on my 120 gallon tank with four hand size fish, I get about 2 fingers of skimmate a week, or a full cup within a month. I thought I would hear birds and butterflies singing but no not really.

If you bought the skimmer at BRS and box has not been opened you can still return it, it will cost a return shipping and probably a restocking fee.

I opened it and started skimming at 9 and already pulling something out having to do a wet skim no way to slow it down enough, its on the lowest speed on #2 on the adjustment tube and @8.5" of water. But it is actually doing better and I can close it a little more, it might take a few hrs, not sure..still lots of micro bubbles.....no returning it now and I can't justify a re stocking fee, I'd just get a bigger aquarium lol
