Reef safe??

Im looking to add some reef safe angels, anyone got any suggestions as far as what types would be reef safe?

Lamarck angels , Bellus Angelfish ,Watanabei Angelfish , Spot breast Angelfish. these are all considered reef safe and not with caution like a lot of angels but remember there are no guaranties I have the Lamarck's angel and also the spot breast angel both have been model reef residents so far had both for a few years now. good luck and hope this helps

I have tried quite a few angels over the years, and never really worried about reef safe vs not reef safe so I have tried a wide variety. I haven't tried any of the larger angels, but I have a decent amount of experience with smaller ones.

bi-color - I have tried three different times, first two were zoa and SPS munching machines. My current one has been a model citizen for about a year now. I would not suggest this one though, defnitely a gamble.


Potters - I have had two, neither did much damage, but occasionally nipped

Flame - I have had three, about the same as the potters

Bellus - never touched a thing

Lamarck - never touched a thing

pygmy (cherub) - chomped on my zoas

lemonpeel - nipped at everything, but I really never lost anything

Those are all the angels I have tried, and what success I have had or not had in my reef tanks. The Bellus and Lamarck I had were great fish and never touched a coral. As you can tell I am a huge fan of bi-color angels, but I am probably the only one haha, I would advise against them though because it took me three angels to find one that behanved and who knows if it will last.

All of Puebloreefer's suggestions were excellent choices, I have always been a big fan of the Bellus and Watanabei angels. So many of the dwarfs are gorgeous fish, but honestly I think it is always going to be a gamble.

It all comes down to the individual fish. I had an African Flameback and not only did it pick at LPS, but SPS as well. On the other hand I had a large French Angel which is definitely a no-no and it didn't touch anything.

Ken is right with these guys a lot of times it boils down to the individual fish. Only ones I am confident that would not touch anything that I personally have experience with is the Bellus and Lamarck, BUT don't quote me on it would NEVER happen. I guess it depends how much you are willing to gamble, I have gambled quite a few times and only actually lost corals was the bicolor and pygmy I mentioned before, but at the same time I have a bicolor now who has been pretty good for a good year now.
