Now with the PO4 problem I grabbed a sicce pump and BRS mini reactor I had laying around in the garage and put them to use. Grabbed some rowa phos that’s been in the garage from a tank buy only to run into a problem. It looks very used and not good to use. But it was the only thing I’ve got till Monday. So hooked it up and was going to try. Seems like my PO4 problem came when I started automatically feeding the tank twice a day with pellets. Added that to stop the tank from bottoming out and looks like my PO4 went up more than tripled the rate of my NO3.

Also added a new fuge light as my red one was flickering and causing a Disco effect.

After hooking it up I tested the water coming out of the reactor and had it saying 0.63 which would conclude rowa phos was bad??? I would think that should be 0.0 after running thru the rowa. Have some on order in case.

Tested the PO4 last night 08/15 and got from the tank 0.46 so slowly coming down and then coming out of the reactor 0.45. Which again i think should be 0.0. Maybe I'm wrong but will see when the new jug gets here.

I think the effluent from your rowa reactor would only be 0.0 if the flow rate was really low, it does need some dwell time, but stripping it to 0 would be problematic after a few days your tank would bottom out. From the looks of your last tests it looks like it is working

So, I’ve been having issues with the seachem kalkwasser not clearing up and it being a pita. lol Basically wanting to quit the stirrer and just dose a different way. I found an unopened bag of BRS kalk and figured I’ll give it one more chance. Thank god I did. I added 3/4 gallon of RODI added a tsp of kalk and topped off the rest and spun the water for about a min and the water was clear in about 10-15mins as before it was over 3 days to clear. Needless to say I’m setting up the stirrer to stir at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00. And I’ve got it dosing 50ml of kalk 12x from 20:00-08:00. Well, test alk tomorrow night and see how it looks and if I need to lower the dose.

I have BRS kalk in my stirrer currently too. After a little digging, i think i am going to try avast!'s kalk, apparently it mixes even better. Just thought i'd share, though i wish i had first had experience to pair it with.

I use the Avast Marine K1 with their Mississippi lime Kalk.

I stir 24/7

Kalk is a tricky. Best way I have learned to dose Kalk is I place a decent amount in my stirrer and dose 600 ml currently per day on my DOS QD. So basically it runs every hour for a certain amount of ML’s

I then monitor my alk through my trident. If it my alk is stable I leave it. If it drops I increase my ML’s. I haven’t really replaced my Kalk because I have quite a bit in the stirrer and I want to deplet it. I want to get to 4 gallons of Kalk dosed per week as that is my ATO consumption. You can’t dose more Kalk then what your tank evaporates.

I don’t have a heavily stocked tank so the Kalk isn’t very heavily dosed and it’s able to maintain at the moment.

Did my weekly water testing everything is looking good. Since dosing kalk my alk has gone up so going to keep an eye on that to make sure it doesn’t go above 9. PO4 has gone down so more but probably probably need to change out the media. Skimmer is running pretty well.

lol. You’re not lying. Sad part is I’ve got an apex, dos, and trident in my garage but was going to use that on an upgrade I’m building now. Guess I should just go ahead and hook it up to run this tank to keep track of all of that and make it so much simpler. I want to get more into sps like your tank. That’s why I’ve been spending so much time on it. lol Then I guess in 5-6 months when I get my new tank up and running just look for an apex for that tank.

Now I tested alk after a week and saw how much it went down to figure out that it was using 0.1 and the great goggle assist told me that with adding a tsp to the gallon and 50ml it would bring my alk up 0.4/day.

Have a 135g cube 36x36x24 in the garage I’m slowly getting ready to set up. You’re probably right. Get the trail and errors out on this tank so the real sps tank is smoother.

So, tested alk this morning and it was up at 9.1 which is higher than I like it. Some of the torches and acans are all closed up not fluffy and ticked off. So I’m going to do a 10g water change with tropic which AI says it’ll bring down the alk to around 8.6/5 where I would like it and then I’ve changed the dosage to only 13ml instead of the 50ml I was doing. I’ll test again in 3 days to see where it’s at and adjust again.
