I have a godaddy domain then signed up with smtp2go for the actual mail part since it is free and godaddy charges a monthly fee for email smtp service. Either works. You just have to have a service that doesn't require SSL. If you need further info on my approach I can provide more.
Oh and I have not found a way to use Yahoo or gmail since they now require SSL even for "allow less secure access"
