I calibrated it according to instructions and it read 4.03 in the pH 4 solution and 10.04 in the pH 10 soluntion... should I be concered the unit is not functioning properly? thanks for your help

The stock pH probe may not be made to read high range pH? I would do a search in the digital aquatics forum. I'm sure you can find someone who had similar problems. Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to measure the pH of your kalk?

Two things here:

1) The ph probe maxes out around 10 (i beleive)
2) Kalk pH is around 13...or 13.4...something like that.
