Does anyone have a cost savings hack for a Reefmat 1200? They are $34.00 a roll and I feel like there is a less expensive alternative - another brand? Buying bulk fleece?

i have had the opposite experience the precon filters are actually dirtier than the redea filters I'm using the 30 micron and its actually lasting longer i found the redsea filter looks and feels like it's not consistent in its micron size threw out the roll

From reading all the great reviews, I ordered 10(5x30 micron and 5x20 micron) rolls of precon filters… can’t see myself using it. These rolls tear super easy. It rips almost every day and I have to cut it and restart the roll from the cut part. With the original roll that came with my reefmat 1200 I didn’t have this issue…. Is anyone else having this issue? For the people who get it to work, how do you keep it from tearing?

I just used my first roll, it was working fine but now midway it has ripped twice. Not sure what microns it is cause I ordered it a long time ago. Did you u ever find a solution to your problem?

No. Just switched back to the oem rolls and no more rips. If precon makes their rolls stronger I would love to switch back. They’re so much cheaper and I would save a lot of money.

I have had 2 rips in the last few years since switching over to Precon Filter rolls.

I just got my latest order:
  • 8 X Precon 2, 6. 7" x 50 yds. 2" ID
  • $10.50 USD each.
  • 50 micron nominal filter media
They do have higher micron sizes you can order.

That are the exact same dimensions I am using. Going to try a different roll cause I ordered a bunch a long time ago.

Read this whole thread. And going to give this a try. My usage has gone through the roof on my last two rolls. 300g system. Went from 40-50” a day to double that now. For a sec I thought it was my drain pipes because my overflows were also backing up. But I’m now thinking bad batches of RS roller mat.

So from my understanding the adapter is needed even for the 1200? Or just the 500? Going to get 5 of each. 30/50 micron.

It's needed for the 1200 also. You won't regret it. It's a lot cheaper than going the RS replacement route.

Also, check your drainpipes behind your weir. Mine were starting to back up and it was a bunch of feather dusters and their tubes that were starting to affect my drainage flow

Only got the tank up and running beginning of April. So I don’t think there much critters in there haha.

And I ran air in the drain pipes to push what might be in there. Still same.

I have been using these for the last couple of months and they work as well as the OEM.

115' Long 6.78" High Replacement Fleece Roll

The single is $20 and a double is $35.

I'm not sure of the micron size but they seem to run pretty consistent with the Redsea rolls.

Thank you Chris... I have this DIY filter roller using 1200 reefmat. The OEM lasted me 9 months. I am now trying these precon filters, but for some reason, like others have mentioned, they are ripping. I dont blame precon for these, since mine is a DIY. I just noticed that when the paper is in water longer it tends to rip. One think i also noticed is that the Precon paper is thinner? You can see your hands through it compared to reefmat. Also the 50 micron i have does not seem to filter ? so i may need to try 20 micron?

Now I am thinking of trying this Kamrexi if they are also compatible with my fleece roller in terms of strength and micron.

Thanks for the pic

I just placed an order and received an email from him.

His responded. Email ended up going to spam haha. I called him, and we figured what that’s what it was. All good. Ordered 10 rolls!
