Refugium ideas

Hello reefers,

I am looking for some input on a small refugium that I am adding to my 90g. I have a small 5g tank that I have drilled and have sitting on a table next to my DT. I’m planning on plumbing it to my return manifold. I’d like to grow a couple of mangroves along with some macros. I’m thinking of going with a miracle mud substrate along with some LR. I know that the benefits of MM are debated but also a lot of people swear by it. I’m also planning on placing an order with IPSF for the macro. I have ordered from them in the past and they ship generous portions for the price vs most other online retailers. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to make this little fuge successful?

I currently have a 3g macroalgae bowl that’s been running for a year or so. I’ve been using this light from Tighaboy’s website, and it’s been growing things well. Should cover a 5g just fine.

I’d also recommend getting some Brightwell Chaetogro or similar, macros suck up minerals and trace elements pretty fast. Watch your nitrate and phosphate levels too, don’t want those dropping to 0.
