Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to this hobby (I've just got a single reef tank, that is actually just a few sort corals and a pair of clowns I spoil shamelessly), and I'm always interested in the amazing things that come in to my LFS. When I went in last week, however, there was a live remora for sale. It was fairly large (at least a foot), and I couldn't help but feel that this animal should not have been collected. I think it was incredibly irresponsible, and this animal was pretty much destined to wither and die. The fact that my LFS would even consider purchasing and selling this animal makes me re-think wanting to shop there at all. So, a few questions:
Have any of you heard of cases where this fish has been successfully kept in captivity? Do you think it's possible for a hobbyist to keep a remora healthy and happy?-and-
Do you think we, as hobbyists, have an obligation to only give support to the LFS's that acquire and sell responsibly? Does one bad purchase (on the store's part) negate other good experiences?

That remora shouldn't be in any aquarium I've ever seen. I've dove in the aquarium at Disney World in Epcot. In fact today in the Atlantic Ocean I saw a 6ish inch remora trying to attach to out 36' newton dive boat. I've only ever seen a remora that was about a foot long once and I have over 850 dives... A remora over 1' should be in the ocean or in the Georgia aquarium with the whale sharks
