Removing Old Veneer?

We purchased a used King Size Teak Bed, that matches our Bedroom Furniture. Going from a Queen to a King. There is a built in Chest at the end of the bed. The Teak Veneer is Stained, on the Chest Lid, and I can’t Steel-wool the stain away. I’m thinking about Re-Veneering it, but how do I get the Old Veneer off? I can’t just put it on top, as there is thick edge banding around the lid.

Wet an old towel, but not soaking wet. Place it on the veneer to be removed. Let sit for an hour or so. The old veneer will soften and bubble. Use a putty knife to scrape old veneer. If there is a lot of glue, use a hot iron. Let it sit on the damp towel for 20 to 30 seconds, the glue should be soft. Then scrape old veneer.

I can second the hot iron suggestion. I just stripped the veneer off an old stand to repair water damage. Works a treat!
