Restarting a "dead" tank

Welcome to R2R and back to the salty world Earl.

So I personally would not bleach the rocks. There is bacteria on your rock, be it not the kind that we need in an aquarium. However, that bacteria will die once put in saltwater. This decay will start the bacterial bloom you need. All bought bacteria is still lacking in diversity, some is useless and will take the normal 4 weeks to cycle. If you are going to spend money on bacteria, get a couple pound of live rock rubble from TBS, Kp aquatics, or Gulf live rock. that will have the diversity needed.

Oh and welcome
