Return pump question...

I was originally looking at the vectra L1, as a return pump.. but after reading some reviews with people having problems, along with the lack of apex connectivity.. it seems to be lowering the level of desire I have for it.

I was curious regarding non adjustable return pumps. Do I have to perfectly match the pressure needed? For example the only reason I really was looking at the vectra was because I could adjust the speed based on my needs. Not really trying to plug a pump in and have the return output pressure wash my ceilings.

Curious if I need to calculate the exact pressure, or look at other adjustable return pumps in general. Any ideas?

You can run a return with a ball valve on it with no problem. Then adjust accordingly

How does one figure out what the pressure would drop with a manifold in place? Was thinking of having a few outputs for possible connections, along with an output to my fuge itself.

So would I have the ball valve prior to all the other connections? So I could slowly adjust the pressure and then work from there? Does using a ball valve or anything cause problems with pressure building up or anything?

I have a vectra M1 and the L1 and really you don't want them on your apex other than a on/off setting.
The m1 I use for my skimmer and the L 1 as return pump.
Once dialed in its a set and forget.

No there will be no negative effects from dialing down a return pump. You would put the valve before you manifold and then adjust everything accordingly. What size tank do you have?

Currently a 65 gallon, looking to put a 40 gallon breeder as a sump. Only was thinking the L1 for two reasons, the stand I am building is 4 feet long, so at some point I might upgrade to a 120, along with the idea of using a manifold so I was clueless on pressure lost through that. I guess my manifold ideally I am envisioning is 4 quick connections, a pipe to my fuge and the availability to hook up a hose for quick water changes.

I would go with the Reef octo Varois 6. It's a solid pump and controlled by the APEx. Low on power and energy efficient

That's probabaly the coolest pump I've seen other than the vectra. Thanks for this. It will provide more than enough strength and it has the float switch even included! You saved me probabaly $200 and that just means I can implement a sump faster :D

I agree. I have M1 on my 250g connected to apex. After dialing it to water flow I want, it's set and forget. Never mess with it
