Just purchased an RKE used from another reefer. I updated the firmware on all the modules using the SL2 without a problem. When I plug in the head unit it doesn't show up in MyReef 2.0. What is the procedure for updating the head unit or how do I resolve this issue in MyReef? Thanks.

Just a quick update. I tried to connect the head unit to a pc4 to see if the head unit would show up in MyReef. When you plug in the head unit it doesn't show up in MyReef and neither does the pc 4. Let me know if anyone has an idea of how to fix this. Thanks.

You use the Sid to plug head unit directly to pc. When doing module you plug into any module and they'll all show up.

That's my problem. The head unit doesn't show up when connected to the SID. All other modules show up without the head unit connected.

If you are checking firmware make sure only one module or head unit is attached to the SID. The PC4 have to be powered down. If you are programming then power up the system. Power up your computer and start myReef. Hook the SID to your computer then hook the SID to the buss.

That's the process I follow but the system tree only shows the SID with nothing else below it. Everything updated fine one piece at a time with the exception of the head unit. It's as if the head unit shorts out the system.

Is it possible the head unit isn't compatible with the SID? The setup came to me with the older SID equipment.

It's not on the front. Does that mean it can't use the MyReef 2.0?

Have you looked in the DA forums? I been searching them for your issue and you might not want to update the head unit....... http://www.forum.digitalaquatics.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13576 especially if it is not a V2 or above. I'll keep searching though, does it operate properly at all without the SID connected? To be quite honest myReef isn't anything too special..............

Thanks for the help. I haven't been too deep into the programming yet pending updating firmware. However I did connect some of the modules like the power strips and the SL1 and the head unit sees them just fine. I figured it would be easier to program it on MyReef.

LOL, I didn't do much but search their "brief" forums. I use the RKE to program for the most part, just have to remember to scroll to "save" after making a change is all. I'll keep searching and see if I can come up with anything else..........I see (possibly) you posted on their forums, hopefully you get a response.

Did you happen to do a factory reset on the RKE at all?

Yes I did but the outcome was the same. I'm excited to use this controller; just want to start out on the right foot. I appreciate your help.

Can you post a picture of your head unit? If should show up if it is either V1 or V2. Just don't upgrade the V1 to any 3.xx version firmware. You will not be able to use any of the newer modules with the V1 head unit. The V2 head unit has been in use since 2008 at least. So the V1 head units are not very common. There is a menu item "info" under "system" that will tell you what version of firmware that is on the head unit.

That does look like a V1 head unit. That firmware is very old. You will need Ver 2.xx to be compatible with myReef. Your best bet is to contact DA support to get a copy of the latest 2.xx version compatible with that head unit and get help with updating it. When the head unit is connected to the SID do you get a item with "??????????????????" or something similar? If so it is seeing the head unit. It just doesn't know what it is.

Ok that sounds good. I have a request for help into DA now regarding this issue. I didn't see where this head unit was excluded from any comparability with MyReef 2.0. So I guess there is hope. I'll update the service ticket with this information. To answer your question the head unit never shows up in MyReef. I appreciate all of your help in trying to get this issue resolved.

It is just firmware 1.xx that is not compatible with myReef. The head unit is ok as long as you can get 2.xx programmed onto the head unit. To do that you will need a copy of that firmware. The latest is what you will have which is 3.xx and you do not want to update to that.
