I apologize, this one may be way out there, but I have to ask. I was recently reading about RNA interference and its applications to fish disease. Some examples:
I know next to nothing about RNAi, does anyone know if these sorts of treatment could one day make into the aquarium hobby? If so, is it a long way off or not? It sounds like this would be awesome for treating fish and coral parasites. Like I said, I know very little about this, hoping someone with more knowledge can give perspective.
A RNAi-based therapeutic proof of concept targets salmonid whirling disease in vivo
Myxobolus cerebralis is a cnidarian-myxozoan parasite that causes salmonid whirling disease. M. cerebralis alternates between two hosts: (1) a vertebrate salmonid and (2) an invertebrate oligochaete, Tubifex tubifex. There is no successful treatment for salmonid whirling disease. MyxSP-1 is a M...

Exploring RNAi as a therapeutic strategy for controlling disease in aquaculture - PubMed
Aquatic animal diseases are one of the most significant constraints to the development and management of aquaculture worldwide. As a result, measures to combat diseases of fish and shellfish have assumed a high priority in many aquaculture-producing countries. RNA interference (RNAi), a natural...
