Hi friends,

I want to RODI water and keep it in a plastic container, and gradually go drawing water as needed basis for the reruns and water changes.

But my questions are:

1- How long can I keep fresh water stored without being harmful?
2- What is the proper way to store it, I mean what kind of container, location?

The cheapest method is probably roughneck trash cans from home depot/lowes. I have two of the 30 gallon type, seem to be a pretty popular choice among most hobbyist. You can get fancy food grade storage containers, but they're expensive and harder to find locally. I've been using my trash cans for the better part of a year with no issue. I store them indoors.

Thanks friend, in a boat like those you mention had the idea of doing it.

How long you store water in those containers, for how many days there?

RO/DI keeps almost forever if it is kept sealed or tightly covered. I keep it in 5g jufs for 6+ months at a time or longer and it's still 0 TDS when used.

I would say you could store pretty much indefinitely (sure you will be using and refilling anyway) and any food safe plastic container would be good. I have a 5g plastic water can I keep filled for misc. use and I use a rubbermaid Brute commercial food safe trash can for ATO. That of course has constant turnover from ATO and being filled from RO/DI with float valve. As far as storage pretty much any place not baking in the sun would be good. My ATO sits outside, in the heat of Florida, but out of the sun. Such a small amount comes in at a time temp does not really matter. For water changes I mix inside and by the time salt is mixed the water has cooled anyway.

I run my RODI every 4-6 weeks so, the water could be in there for well over a month before used. I think the only real concern would be keeping the containers out of the heat, like most have mentioned, but that shouldn't shouldn't affect the TDS.
