The above picture will be your ‘in’ to the RO/DI Unit.

At the RO membrane (White usually horizontal tube) you will have a waste water line that you run to your sewer drain or sink. Usually this tubing is black or red indicating it’s ‘bad’ or waste water that should be put in the drain.

At your DI resin stage, you will have your perfectly clean 0 TDS water output which is what you want to use for your tank. Usually this tubing is blue or white indicating good water.

My only complaint is that the pipe fitting wasn't perfect. I think this one may have the correct fitting:

We got some quotes from plumbers that were around $300 to install. I did it myself without too much trouble or expense.
The main thing I like about this model is that it is cheap ~$100 and comes with a pump, reservoir and faucet.

I plan to add this DI column to get RODI for my tank. The DI cartridge runs ~$20.

I recommend that you also buy the triple inline TDS meter and possibly a pressure gauge so you know when to change the filters.

Hmm...I am not sure what I am trying to get rid of. How do I find that out?

The tank is just for the faucet. Your DI filter should be upstream of it and the post RO carbon filter/faucet with a check valve so that you are not sending pressurized water from the reservoir through the DI filter. I think it takes 40min - 1 hour for 5 gallons.

I am thinking about setting up an RO water system in my basement. Is it easy to do? Can I set it up to a sink or do I need to set it up off of a water pipe?

I currently have the BRS 7 stage RODI system. Due to it being in my office it is portable and stored out of the way when not in use, I would recommend their 7 stage plus system as it comes with multiple pieces of hard wear for multiple ways to connect to your water source, from laundry sink to even under the sink type connectors.

You will be fine with a 4 stage or 5 stage honestly. 150-250 depending on what you want. The install is super easy almost requires no skill at all.

There are plenty of videos that will walk you through the steps of different installs. (I used my water line to the fridge and just T'd it off to my RODI since it was already installed. But I have had it installed to my washer (cold water) and from under the sink hook up (cold water)

I am using city water.

I would look up a copy of the city’s water report to determine if chloramines are in use. Chloramines require a litte more specific effort to remove.

Here is how i hooked up my RODI system to a utility sink. The hardware is simply screwed between copper pipe and existing hardware. You can find this on BRS. “EZ Angle Stop Kit.”

That's the same setup I used. I believe the BRS system comes with the hardware (mine did anyway). Like it a lot better having it constantly hooked up and personally I would avoid a saddle valve. Haven't had the greatest luck with those in the past and if we move or change up how it's hooked up you can remove this hardware and no holes were added to the existing plumbing.
