Hello I started my new tank up not too long ago and everything has been smooth and sailing, but I am changing out the rock scape in my tank. How should I go about approaching this without messing up the bacteria and everything in my tank? It’s gonna be a complete new custom made scape. Any advice helps thanks!

What are the inhabitants currently? How long ago did you start it? How much rock are you removing? What other filtration do you have?

The tank just had some euphylia, mainly acros, a shrimp, lots of fish. Filtration i have a reefmat 1200 and skimmer.

Are you wanting to aquascape current live rock out of the tank? Or dry rock then add to the tank?

The rock I’m adding will be completely dry if thats what you’re asking.

Yes that was my question.

Are you planning on keeping other live rock in the tank or the sump? Adding dry rock to an established tank can be done however it will have a rough ugly phase. You’ll still want to keep some live rock in the sump or tank and you’ll want to seed bacteria when adding the dry rock. Depending on how much you add it may go through another mini cycle.

Personally I won’t add dry rock to an established tank and will only add more live rock. Not saying you can’t because it can be done successfully.

I was planning to sell my current rock scape because it us done custom as well

I did this 2 weeks ago. I built my aquascape back in August, I cycled the rocks in a large plastic tote, then I added a damsel fish in September. After 4 months in water with a fish, the rocks are able to handle the bioload, and mature enough that algae won't start immediately growing. I removed all old rocks from the tank, fragged all the corals and glued them onto the new aquascape and put the aquascape in the tank. So now 2 weeks later, no algae, no pests of any kind for that matter.

These are the pieces I plan to get rid of
