Hi,

My 80 Gallon tank is around 4 - 5 months old, and all the rocks are covered in green algae. I can't add snails due to my Timor Wrasse eating them all.

I added 3 Urchins and have a small Mimic tang, but they only seem to scratch the surface. My nutriens were very high and I recently lowered them with carbon dosing.

Is this part of the ugly stage and it will go away by themselves? Or I will continue to need to clean them manually?

Thank you.

Zip tie a tooth brush to the end of a 1/4" hose with the hose just touching the bristles and put one end into your filter sock or something to catch the debris. Scrub everything as much as you want without having to water change. Get rid of the caught junk. Repeat until its gone or under control.

Well this is a little tricky due to the inability to add certain cuc. The urchins should eventually get it under control but in the meantime I would increase volume and frequency of water changes . Since you don’t have a lot of coral mounted on them take them out spray them with 3 percent hydrogen peroxide scrub, rinse and replace.
