Rodi system question

Oh is there any way I could make a diy system so I don’t have to spend a lot because I don’t need a crazy system my tap is already pretty good and my tank isn’t really big

You can try tap if you want, but it doesn't usually go well for people.

With a small tank you might just consider buying distilled water to make salt water with, or buying premixed salt water from an LFS.

I personally would not run a reef tank without a RODI setup.

You could source the canisters and fittings. But it would be cheaper just to buy the system.

You can get a non-reef branded RO system and add the DI stage(s) and a TDS meter yourself.

That’s pretty much the cheapest and easiest system you can get which isn’t reef branded.

It will likely not perform as well as the reef-branded systems, nor last as long, but when the will deplete, you can than replace the filters with the higher quality ones (you basically buying it for the canisters. Because it’s usually cheaper as a bundle).

That being said, you are unlikely to find any system around 30$.

Another option is buy second hand.

The RO Buddy with DI is about the least expensive RODI filter on the market if you're on a budget, but it doesn't use standard filter media, and a lot of people end up not happy with it:

Otherwise, you could check out an RODI system from BRS, SpectraPure, or Buckeye Hydro.

If you have a smaller tank, you can use distilled water sold at any grocery store, pharmacy or your local Mega-Lo-Mart. Many Local Fish Stores (LFS) will sell RODI water and even premixed saltwater.

Good luck!
