Rotifers

I got some rotifers from a fellow reefer and I just checked the water for the sg and it is very, very high. What is the best way to lower it without killing the culture?

You can drip them like anything else. I've had rotifers and phyto doing just fine as well as mollys at 1.033 though. No big worries.

I did not think that the rotifers were suppose to be kept at that high of a salinity? ??

Rotifers are very resilliant with SG. best results, as far as breeding, will be between 1.007-1.014 but they can tolerate up to 1.035 that I have seen. I try to keep mine around 1.020, but ocassionally it gets up into the 1.030 range. I lower the salinity throughout a day with just adding RO by the cupfulls to my 3 gallon containers.

Thanks I was trying to do that like 3 cups per day of fresh RO/DI water but I think they crashed very little swimming around in there and I have 4 to 5 days before my clownfish eggs hatch.

Here is what I would do... set up a new bucket of salt with salinity of 1.20. then drop some algae paste into the bucket... after that use your sieve and scoop some rotifers into the new bucket. they should be fine. make sure that you don't over feed or they will produce too much and crash if you don't plan on harvesting everyday... also make sure the bubbles are not too strong maybe 2-3 bubbles per second. good luck
