Hello all,

Using RowaPhos for the first time and have little confusing results. Since adding it to the reactor I started with:
8/3 -P04- 0.05
8/4 -PO4- 0.03
8/5 -PO4- 0.00
8/6 -PO4- 0.05
8/7 -PO4- 0.06
8/8 -PO4- 0.03
8/9 -PO4- 0.07

8/12 -PO4- 0.05

Testing using Hannah Phosphates ULR

Is it possible that the media was exhausted after only 3 days? I dont think my phosphates were that high from the beginning.

Other parameters are stable:
KH-8-4
CA-475
Mg- 1440-1500 (stopped dosing about 8 weeks ago)
Thank you.

I’ve also found that the Hanna vials need very thourough cleaning, and seem to accumulate low levels of Phospate between tests.

Soaking with vinegar or citric acid, and cleaning with isopropyl alcohol seems to help.

Could your test kit be pushing the max of its accuracy? those numbers look really close and the last one could have been on the high side of the test’s accuracy. I’d say all looks normal here. And possibly your phosphates were at .04 the whole time

You are probably seeing the error range of the kit and the possibly some slight user error that could change it a tiny bit.

Here are the specs for the Hanna Phospate ULR for reference

±0.02 ppm ±5% of reading

The phosphorus ulr is the same, converted for units.
Then it could not have been .04 the entire time but I don’t think the media was exhausted. If the last test at 8/12 was higher then .07 instead of lower, I would say it’s possible but there are still variables to check off, like how much media per gallons were used, consistent time of day testing and feedings.

the phosphorus ulr is ±5 ppb, which is 0.005ppm, they are not the same, the phosphorus is more accurate.
One is phosphate (PO4) the other is phosphorus (P). 5ppb phosphorus is equivalent to a reading of 0.02ppm Phospate.

They are the same checker using the same reagent, they just show different units.

what volume of media was used and what's the systems total volI have about 250g

what volume of media was used and what's the systems total volume?
My system is about 250g and I used 250ml of media (per instructions)

I tested the PO4 today coming directly from the reactor not a tank water and it read 0.05 so its exactly where I started. At this point I am not sure if the media do anything.

manufacture claims:
250 g/250 mL RowaPhos will remove 3ppm of phosphate from 250 US gallons of saltwater.

Should water coming out of reactor be at 0?

thank you all for your help and time.

The effluent will usually be lower than the tank, but GFO will bind more as the phosphate rises, so I would not replace it until the tank phosphate gets higher than you want it to be.

I have the same problem and maybe worst because next day after swap the rowaphos the results get even higher ( from 0.07 to 0.11 ).
