Running airline outside

Hey guys for those of you that run your skimmer intake from outdoors do you do anything to push the air or do you let the skimmer do the work? Mine would be a short run, probably a couple of feet. Also, do you put any filters or anything over the intake?

A short run the skimmer should be able to pull the air in. I would put something over the end just to stop any bugs or bees from entering the tube. filter floss or cut up a piece of pantyhose with a rubberband should suffice
