Good evening, I am going to move my aquarium and I have the opportunity to make a new electrical installation and I would like to know if you could recommend me the safest and most practical way to place the plugs.
My initial idea was to install several plugs with workstations or power strips much upper above the water level, so that the wires are always plugged above the water and there is no danger that a drop can reach the plug. I have seen that some of you use the "loops" to avoid that, but I suppose that if I put the plugs above the water, although it is not the most aesthetic, it is the safest, or am I wrong ? Maybe you have some way that I don't know of to make it more aesthetically pleasing and just as safe ? I have seen something called "smart plugs" but I think this idea has nothing to do with safety, but, rather, with the fact that the plugs turn on and off by themselves at the desired times without the need to be monitoring them, but I'm not sure about that either.
In short, I would like to know if, if you had the opportunity to make a new electrical installation from 0 for your aquarium, what would be in your opinion the safest way to do it ?

I would put electrical receptacles above the water line of the tank and out of splash range for normal maintenance. You can look into TP-Link Kasa power strips for a good out-of-the-box experience to get the "smart" features. Alternatively, there is a company called Shelly that makes relays you can stick in your wall behind some outlets/switches to make them "smart" as well.

If you're going below the water line I would add a cover of some sort on the top, some people even go as far to get a water proof enclosure to keep everything in.
