If you are new to the hobby and especially if you have been in the hobby for a while with a tank that is finally getting there....a few thoughts to remember about your aquarium and equipment:

1. Get a back up power supply to a low watt wave-maker or air-stone. Nothing worse than a power outage to turn your passion into a disaster.
2. Create a maintenance plan and once a month:
-Clean your inputs and outputs water lines
-Clean your pumps in vinegar
3. Electrical - Make sure there is no salt water splashing receptacles.
-If cleaning these, use tap water and a very slightly damp cloth to clean
-If excessively salted, turn of power at the main to that receptacle and then clean - solve the issue so it doesn't happen again
-Always have all your plugged in cords on a drip-loop.
-Always have all your plugged in cords on a drip-loop (repeated on purpose)
4. Heating - make sure you have a backup heater
5. Take a few minutes everyday to look over your tank inhabitants and equipment. Relax and enjoy the time while knowing that this is a critical part of being an aquarist.

There is more, but this would be a great start.

Thank you.

How much does it cost to back up your system? Money, probably about $150. Time 5 minutes a day and about 20 minutes once a week. Now think how much money you spend on livestock?

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
