Hey guys not sure if this is the right forum but I was wondering where most of ya'll look for equipment and such on sale? I want to start planning another tank in the next few months and retail price is definitely a pocket buster
edit: even if not on sale where do you guys like to browse/window shop tank parts

also whats a good way to learn about different equipment and stuff? I'm still pretty new to the hobby and all the brands/different parts is very overwhelming when looking at equipment

Bulkreefsupply or marinedepot. Their star ratings are decent. Ask people on here if the stuff you pick is good before you order.
What size tank are you looking at and what is your budget.

I currently have a 75g that i want to slowly upgrade but for my next tank im thinking at least a 125 with no set budget yet

very good point
Do you have any brands i should look out for? specifically lights since i still need high end lights on my 75
What are you trying to grow? Do you want led?

I'm not too sure about the major difference between led and t5s; but I mostly want to grow stuff like torches or hammers and i also really like brain coral and montiporas if those can all live in the same tank

I enjoy Marine depot, especially free shipping

There is an upgrade-able T5/LED hybrid light on BRS that is cool. Can start out with the T5s and add led modules 1 at a time when you can afford them. Aquatic Life Brand I believe

saltwateraquarium.com

I started with a hydra, then switched to T5s cd6TzcsvQlewy6hKPIDX2w.jpg OM+N5QBlTQufW9lCl2fmag.jpg %%HlvO07ROqa%ah%qH74FA.jpg
Oh wow that looks beautiful
Are t5s hard/expensive to set up? That may be the best option for me on my 75 gallon currently

T5’s are better coverage but doesn’t provide any shimmer like you see in the ocean. You also need to replace the bulbs every 10 months or so which adds up overtime. They also are just one spectrum so you don’t get the color change you can get with leds throughout the day.
leds don’t have as great of coverage, it’s a single point light source in most cases so it’s like a spot light, meaning you will need several. LED t5 combo is great and that’s what I do. The color you get from the actinic spectrums really makes corals display all their colors. While the t5’s are great for growth. Some leds like kessil also give you shimmer effect like you would see in the ocean.
Here’s my tank with the t5’s and kessil 360x’s on.

Here’s just the 360x’s on at sunset.

That is so beautiful wow
What’s a good way to set up something like that so I can maybe start with one and add the other without too much hassle once I got the money

Thank you!
Start with a t5 hybrid fixture that way you don’t have to waste money on LED mounts like I did one you get them :p
How long is your 75 and how long is the 125 you are looking at? They come in 24,36,48,61 inches I believe.

My 75 is 48” currently
Not sure what dimensions I want for the 125 tank yet

Saltwateraquarium.com, marinedepot, and Premium Aquatics are where I shop. For sand, I recommend ordering from petco.com and chewy.com.

The hydra wasn’t cutting it for me. The only reason I have T5s is because the fixture
came with another setup I bought. Yes bulbs needs to be replaced which adds to cost. You get better coverage than LEDs. Some of these new lights are ridiculously high priced. I’m looking to upgrade and may do a hybrid setup with the new hydra lights. Yet, not 100% sure about the upgrade. I am in college and honestly don’t have time to keep up with the tank. When I leave for clinical rotations it is going to be a nightmare to keep it up from crashing due to lack of water changes, which can lead to chemistry issues. Hopefully my mother doesn’t mind taking care of my children :)

I saw a post on here about running tanks without water changes id look into that
