Does anyone know why my Brute water mixing can smells like a gym locker?
I mix 20 gallons of Tropic Marin Pro at a time, use 5 gallons per week. I leave a mixing pump on in the container.
its located in the garage in Florida so it’s around 90 degrees most of the time. I take out 5 gallons and bring it in the house to cool down before the water change.

Thanks
...JIM...

Do you keep the lid tightly on the container? Is it possible that the water is off-gassing and that is what you are smelling?

Dead lizard? I've been hearing a lot about stinky brute cans since I got on the forum....so it could be part of the "aging" process for the can.

Had the same issue. I soaked the cans in a half gallon of vinegar mixed with a full can of water. I let this sit for about a day.

rinsed and it didn’t happen again.

The brute I use always stinks when I leave the lid on
Same. @Jimdba54 I use the same salt and the odor makes me nervous so I’m always mixing fresh batches for water changes. If I have any excess I store it in 5G jugs as “backup” for random things (cleaning new corals etc). When I mix a new batch I pour the excess into the Brute.

I’m guessing your water temp also makes the odor stronger. I mix in the basement which is around low 70s.
