My sand bed keeps turning brown. I'm using my gravel vacuum on it a lot but it's not going away. I think it's killing my corals. I need help!!

How old is the tank?
Are you using rodi water?

Might just be ugly phase stuff

The tank is roughly 3 months old. I am using water straight from my lfs. It is salt water rated 1.026. I clean It but it just ends up coming back.
Double check with them it's rodi. It probably is:)oops:but not always)

And keep doing what you're doing. The ugly phase will pass.

If you hold the brown stuff between your fingers and it's a almost dusty kinda feel. It's diatoms. Completely normal animal to have right now.

Is the ugly phase killing my corals though?

No.
My first concern is source water quality.
My second question to trouble shoot the prob Is what light are you using?

I see only one coral that looks to be in poor health.

My clowns always want to be in the photos. Lol. My pulsating Zenya was sprouting and this week it hasn't been doing the same.

Nice pictures.

Yea that's all good. It even looks like you've got the slight green precursor to purple corraline alge coming in.

How's you're flow? I couldn't see the power heads.

Are you running chemical filterationnlike activated carbon or gfo or purigen?

How does the brown stuff look up close? Just brown dust ? How's it feel.

Did you cycle your tank?

Diatoms alone aren't a problem in a newer tank, but if corals are dying too I lean towards water quality.

Lastly, from what I've experienced, marineland by itself is better for soft corals only as I've had the same light

Just brown dust. It is getting better. I have never cleaned the rocks. Probably should.

I don't have any power heads. My only flow is my canister filter head for the outflow.

You should look into some powerheads. Corals like , need, and respond to flow.

The diatoms will fade away on their own.
