Sand In a Frag Tank

i have done both and for whatever reason i have always loved sand in my frag tanks.

I think I have the frag tank you are planning to make.
28 nano jbj, sand, live rock under the egg crate.
I love the setting.

This is a great looking tank. Gave me a good idea, makes me want to break down my nano and start a frag.

I would just get a canister filter, and put a bunch of rubble in it.

no sand needed.

i got sand in my 40b and i am seriously thinking of removing it. if a powerhead falls from the glass it shoots the sand everywhere and i have to blow the frags off every week too. i did have it BB for a while when i first had it started and i thought the sand would help with filtration and growing good bacteria and all that jazz, but its not worth the hassle for me. it does make it look nicer, but it is a frag tank, not a display. its not supposed to look pretty.i like the idea of the reactor media, .
i am thinking of going bare bottom again and maybe gluing some sand to the bottom to have the sand look with a BB tank..

I think I'm going to go with LR rubble for my substrate. 1-2" peices with a dedicated power head to keep plenty of flow down there. I'll probably add some hermits to help with any extra food and some snail to keep algae off the glass. I will incorporate some chaeto some how to help with phosphates and nitrates. Any thoughts.
