I was reading on a different forum about added sand in the sump. I've ran a 56 gallon tank for over a year and did not run sand in my sump. I'm close to getting my 75 gallon set up and wanted to asked advice about added a sand bed..

My thoughts with the 56 was a clean sump was easier to maintain.

What the the advantages and disadvantages or added a sand bed to the sump.

Right now I have about 15 or 20 pounds of rock rebel algae in there.

Thanks for reading.

If your planning on a Deep Sand Bed I'd go that route, other than that, its not necessary. Alot easier to maintain as you said, without it.

Have you considered a RDSB, remote deep sand bed? Keep it covered, without light, and you get all the good traits of a DSB without the need for sand stirrers and cleanup crew.
