sargassum fish(frog/angler) questions

Do sargasum fish actually walk on the sand like other frog fish or are they more floaters, because their natural habitat is floating near the surface in sargassum seaweed. Just got mine and he doesn't seem to want to sit on the sand and is more drifting until he gets himself in a spot where his fins reach and sits there for a bit. i made sure he never made contact with the air, even mixed my water with the local fish stores so we wouldn't gulp any air. and he is not bloated or anything.
because i know they have swim bladders unlike other frog/angler species?right

Also, if so should I get some fake/real seaweed for it for the top of the tank.
PS I'm not saying the fish is jut floating, he wedges himself in between the rocks. but it seems like he swims around sometimes.

Yes they live within the sargassum . That is where they find most of their food . So many shrimps and fish live within the sargassum . It’s like a food buffet in front of them everything is well camouflaged. Many of the inverts just crawl within the maze And the algae resides in like a 1 to 2 ft range at the surface . They don’t like to leave it either . They will be pushed onshore by the wind and die yet they could have easily dropped to the bottom before they floated all the way onto shore. . Plastic plants will float or you can anchor a bunch of tall plastic plants as their tops will lay across the surface . . What is your plan on feeding .? And what has it been eating ?

I kept one shortly while I was living on Kauai years ago. The only time it would ever be down by the rock work, would be when it was using its lure hunting for more food. I would hit tide pools 2-3 times a week to catch fish for it to eat. It would fill up to the point it couldn’t swim anymore, float up into the corner where the HOB filter was, wedge itself into the corner and sit there for days digesting. Whenever it was down by the rock work using its lure, I knew it was time to hit the tide pools again.

I have it on the same diet as my snowflake eel, half a silverside every 3 days, the fatter silversides, and stuff them with omega pellets like 3-4 each. It’s been doing good I tuned the flow way down and it doesn’t really go on the surface anymore just chills in its rocks.

Nice that yours is eating silversides . Never thought of stuffing the silversides . Good idea to gut load them
