SBB Shipments

Hey all!

So I ordered/won some corals from SBB auctions this week and randomly saw a Facebook story of them packing the boxes. In the video, they discuss that they dip all of their corals in KCl immediately before they are shipped out. I bought from them before and saw absolutely 0 pests fall off of anything (7 different corals) , which speaks to the efficacy of their dip. My question is, (and I know the generic answer here, but am wondering in this specific case) is it overly stressful to dip the corals a second time when they arrive 24 hours after they were already dipped in a pretty strong pesticide dip? Always dip! KCl is potassium chloride and the dip is 2 tablespoons per gallon of dip for 10-15 mins. Some use 1 tablespoon but ive always used 2. If you are worried about stressing things you can set up a temporary holding tank and leave in there for a few days before dipping. I dip them as soon as I get them fwiw. A bunch of different ways to do it but at the minimum its highly recommended to dip every coral before it touches your main tank.

I'm a long time SBB customer. After I get SBB corals, I float, acclimate, and dip again in KCL. Corals never had a problem. KCL is very gentle on corals. I dip 2 tablespoons per gallon for 10 minutes.

I'm a long time SBB customer. After I get SBB corals, I float, acclimate, and dip again in KCL. Corals never had a problem. KCL is very gentle on corals. I dip 2 tablespoons per gallon for 10 minutes.

I don’t have KCL but usually use koralMD pro. Is there a major advantage to KCl?

For acros the potassium salts kill aefw. They dont kill all parasitic bugs and nothing out there yet (that i know of) kills eggs that may remain.
My dipping routine:
Float to temp.
Remove all plugs/glue from acros
Kcl for 10-15 mins...rinse.
Coral bubblebath dip 1 minute..rinse
Inspect with led microscope for any eggs or whatever else
Replug
Interceptor in 10 gallon tank for 7-8 hrs..rinse.
Ready for dt.
Now...I will say that I will do that method still but have decided ive got too much to lose so im setting up a QT for all incoming coral. All it takes is one missed egg and you're gonna possibly have a bad time. QT is about the only step further I know to take it.

Very gentle on corals. I use this. It comes in 1 and 5 Lb on Amazon
I also like to brush the plug base with hydrogen peroxide

Reef primer is a good dip..it has the salts. Or diy with some kcl from Amazon such as

As long as its just kcl in the ingredients it should be good...and at least food grade.

I don’t have any acros in my tank. Just LPSc a couple montis and a pocillo that thee polyps all over the tank
