Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my current tank and am looking at the SC Aquariums tanks. I am looking at the 150 gallon with external overflow. Has anyone had any experience with these tanks or can shed any insight if they are good or not. I was also looking at the pro clear aquatics tanks. I appreciate any input or info that you guys can give me. Thank you.

If you're going custom - Check Glass Cages.

My first large tank was an SCA 150G with internal overflow. Ive known a few others with them as well. They are solid tanks. Are they perfect? No. Mine had some sloppy silicone work for example. I definitely noticed a difference in quality when I started buying tanks from IM, Waterbox, etc.

But at the time I paid only $999 shipped. It looked nice and held water. Couldn't recommend more for what it was.

I know they have gone up in price drastically and I couldn't justify it when I shopped my last tankast year.

Problem with the other tanks is they want you to buy stand as well. I just want the tank only. Do you know if they sell just tank because everything I see it’s a package deal.

That was my rub as well, especially considering a lot of the stands are not very good. My SCA was on a wood skinned welded metal stand. I could run full speed into it and I wouldn't worry about it budging. My current waterbox? I wince when any child or animal runs near it. Not saying the stand isnt solid...but there is a difference between even the best of these ikea stands and a well built custom stand.

But again...I think at the time I quoted SCA they wanted 2100 after shipping. Then I still had to do a stand which I wanted to be furniture grade so that isnt cheap. Plus a large sump. Plus plumbing which done right is not as cheap as many estimate. I did a side by side comparison and the custom SCA was actually $100 more than the Waterbox equivalent plus way less effort.

If I had to make the choice again id say its a coin flip.

I'm also interested in the SCA 150 with the center overflow from the Empire USA website. I’d like to purchase the cabinet as well, but I wasn’t able to figure out how to select the color. Their customer service seems nonexistent — I tried calling but couldn’t reach anyone, and no one has replied to my email. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to place an order through their new website at this point. Has anyone here purchased a tank from them recently?

I ended up ordering the tank. It came within a week or so. I opened it up and the tank looks beautiful. The back glass was tinted black and the silicone and glass bracing was great. I have not set it up yet as I am waiting on an aluminum stand to come but from what I see, I don’t regret ordering it.

If it helps, I spoke to them via their chat option on their website and they answered all of my questions.

What size are you looking at . I have there 150 and was very pleased . The only thing I wish I would have done was got the external overflow for the extra space but at the time they didn’t offer it
