Hi everyone,

Jumping into the hobby. Been going in and out of the forums here as my tank is cycling.

Here's my starter build:

- NUVO Fusion 40 Pro - AIO
- Desktop MightyJet 528GPH return pump (Came with tank)
- Hydor Koralia Smartwave Kit w/ Hydor Koralia Evolution Powerheads - 850 GPH
- Hydor THEO Heater 200W
- Tunze Comline DOC Protein Skimmer 9001

- Mars Aqua 165W light

- CarbSea Arab-alive special grade sand - 20lbs
- Worldwide imports Atlantic Coral Rock - 40lbs (didn't use 1 piece)

I started my cycling 2 weeks ago with a deli shrimp and Dr. Tim's one and only. Been monitoring the cycle. Ammonia dropping this morning!

Since this is my first mix saltwater tank, I was thinking of just 3-6 fish with some soft corals and CUC. I might look into hard corals after things have established and I'm comfortable.

I have room in my basement to go big, but one step at a time :)

I have a few questions already which I'll post in separate threads.

Cheers!

Just an update,

My tank cycled on Friday and I've done a 25% water change.

Picked up a pair of Black Clowns today and noticed the brown algae is starting to form. Going to get the 1 turbo and 1 nassarius snail tomorrow. Just to get things started, will build my CUC now.

Will continue to monitor, looking to get my first zoa frag next week if things look ok.

Cheers!

Sure thing, So my light stand is custom made. I bolted on 2 pipe mount brackets to the Mars Aqua, then with U bolts attached a pipe to the back of my stand (bathroom vanity) and a 90 degree pole mount to extend it outward. I got all my parts from Homedepot.

I didn't trust the hanging wire and short clips it came with.

Monthly update:

Fish:
2x Black Clowns

CUC:
1x Cleaner Shrimp
2x Astraea Snails
2x Nassarius Snails
4x Trochus Snails

Coral:
So I participated in the WWC Fragtoberfest last weekend.... Being new to the hobby, I understood the risks of not sticking to "beginner" corals. That being said I received the corals this morning, went through the acclimation steps and I have.

1x "Sweet and Sour" Zoa ($5 frag)
1x Green neon tip torch
1x Green neon duncan
1x Cactus Pavona ($5 frag)
1x Birds of Paradise Birdsnest
1x Branching star poly (free frag)

Doing lots of reading and watching videos. I'm excited.
