Hi Everyone,

I have a seriously neglected glass tank. I started this hobby 3 years ago, but about a year ago, I started having some health issues and neglected my tank. Fortunately, the fish and most of the coral have survived, but I did not clean the glass for over a year. Now I have coralline algae encrusted all over the place. Nearly impossible to see inside. I have started scraping it all off, but it is tough. The scrapper I'm using is getting damaged. I'll go through dozens of blades at this rate.

Question: What are the best/toughest scrapers you would recommend? I'm determined to get this tank back in shape.

I've gone through a bunch of commercial scrapers and never found one I liked or lasted long. Here's two hanging from my canopy that I think both are broken or bent.

I've always come back to a single edge razor in a plastic blade holder I purchased from HD. Actually made a holder (handle) out of a scrap piece of acrylic.

I use the Tiger Shark from Algae Free, with the removable steel blade. It cuts through coraline no problem.

Call me a Neanderthal (I've been called worse), but I get right in there with a single edged razor blade, hand, arm and all. Works for me, though it's far from "best practice" 🙂

TUNZE Scraper, a basic razor blade scraper, and some good cuc members will help remove the algae for you! Do you have pictures of your tank?
