Corbin and I are in the process of setting up a breader tank for our Zoa's/paly's. We were wondering if people use Crushed coral bottoms,Sand bottoms, or bare bottoms with eggcrate. We just wanted to see what is the best way for success.

I personally use a sand bottom but I know of a LFS that uses shells...detritus gets trapped in there some, but the little polyps of zoanthids that get lost seem to attach to it and grow quite well. In my actual frag tank I use eggcrate with live rock underneath and then live sand under that. In my colony growout tank I will be using live sand, live rock, and then eggcrate, but I would really like to take out the eggcrate and use pieces of flat live rock to place the colonies on with little pieces of rubble around them. My display tank is just live sand and live rock :D I hope this helps :)

You might want to add a fuge or a small canister filter to get any particals floating around.

I am having a sump built that will contain a small 5 gal fuge. I have a few canister filters around the house. Thanks for the input. We truly appreciate the help.

Hey no problem, I always like to help when I can. Lets see some pics when you get it set up.
