Hey guys, I’m just wondering how fast does GFO consume trace elements and if it strips them? Could it out compete corals?
Thanks heaps!

IME gfo is used mainly to absorb phosphate, never really heard of it stripping other essential elements. Would like to hear more about this though

It can bind some. So do all sorts of other processes we use. I’d just treat it as if it part of the overall consumption, since no one really determines what is using what in their systems. If you are concerned levels are too low, dosing something like Tropic Marin A and K is a fine experiment.

I have used it previously with no issues but I wasn’t aware that it could consume trace elements. I have high phosphates now and I am considering using it again. Would the fact that it consumes trace elements stop me from using it again? Would you still recommend it? Thanks heaps Randy!

I would keep a closer eye on small drops in alk / calcium carbonate precipitation. If left unchecked they can add up quickly. Give or take I think I was losing about 20% of my daily consumption when running rowa heavy.
